The Mumbles & Gower is full of lovely restaurants and places to buy food and drink - these are just some of the ones we’ve tried and also read about. Please let us know if you’ve discovered somewhere new. This recent article in The Guardian tells you more about some foodie hereos in the local area.

Same owners as Elwyn - exciting and delicious menu - more expensive for special occasions. 5-10 minutes walk away.

Johnnies Fish & Chip Shop

2a Chapel Walk

5 mins walk away - cash only. Lovely light batter, big portions! Best chippie in Mumbles.

Boo’s Kitchen

Woodville Road

4 minutes walk away - walk down the hill towards the front, take the first left on to Queens Road and you can see Boo’s ahead on the left.

Delicious vegetarian & vegan food. Also does evening takeaways.

The Lighthouse



Lovely views of the Mumbles LightHouse - definitely worth the trip. 5 minutes in a car or 25-30 minutes walk.

Walk around the coastal path or up and over the Mumbles Hill Nature Reserve

Best to book the restaurant but walk ins in the brasserie. Great Sunday lunch.

For takeaway fishy treats. Seasonal from approx March to October. Appeared in lots of best place to eat by the sea reviews.

Horsebox based on the Promenade. 5-10 minutes walk away.

Just head out of Windsor Place and you can see it down the hill on the corner. 2 minutes walk.

Bistro Pierre

Oyster Wharf, 3 Mumbles Rd

French brasserie chain - decent food. Great value set menu. Lovely setting with plenty of outside seating on the balcony overlooking Swansea Bay. 5-10 minutes walk away.

Croeso Lounge

Great views of the bay - still not been - cocktails look good. 5-10 minutes walk away.

New chef at this big pub. Fish menu looks very promising. 10-15 minutes walk.




Knab Rock (just walk towards the pier from the house)

Great location. Quick Italian food - pasta and pizzas and an ice cream bar. 15-20 minutes walk.

Joe’s Ice cream

526 Mumbles Road

Legendary local ice cream - a must try in Mumbles! 5-10 minutes walk away.

The Mermaid

Popular place with outside seating in a garden by the sea. Sunday carvery & fish menu. 15 minutes walk away.


Langland Brasserie

Lovely views over Langland. Seafood. Pricey for special occasions. 25-30 minutes walk or 5 minutes drive.

Hearty pre & post surf food from the campsite cafe. Loaded chips and big cakes! 40 minutes drive.

The Kings Head

Decent pub grub & real ales in the village. 40 minutes drive.


The Beach House A real treat! Michelin star restaurant right on the beach at Oxwich. 30 minutes drive.

Posh afternoon tea and restaurant in an upmarket hotel. 20 minutes drive.

Upper Killay

The Wildflower Cafe

Eco Cafe. Vegetarian food. We’ve not been yet but it gets great reviews. 20 minutes drive.


Cwm Ivy

Over by the salt marshes and cockling area. Also a craft shop. Again not been to it yet - but gets good reviews. 40 minutes drive.


The Lookout

Their Pizza and sunset deals look amazing - not tried them yet but plan too. 40 minutes drive.

The Worms Head Hotel

Amazing views from the garden overlooking Worms Head & Rhossili Beach. Food was tasty. 40 minutes drive.


The Muddy Mailroom

Coffee & cakes in an old post office, dog friendly - not tried yet but looks good! 15 minutes drive.

Food is so so at this Brains Brewey Pub - the bread of heaven starter is worth a try though. Views are amazing over towards Mumbles and over the Marina.

The Mumbles Ale House at The Victoria

21 Westbourne Place

Staggering distance, 2 mins walk - real ales. Turn left out of Windsor Place walk up the hill a few metres, the Victoria is on your left. Pub Quiz on a Tuesday.


Newton Road - Top Shops - left up the hill from Marks & Spencer. 5 minutes walk. Open 11am - 8pm.

Brand new craft ale shop with a few seats - not tried it yet but looks like a great addition to the area.

Ty Cwrw

Local keg beer, real ales etc. Can be consumed on South Gardens if you want to watch the kids play while you have a pint! 5-10 minutes walk.

The Dark Horse

One of the latest bars, cafe come coffee shops. Breakfasts and cocktails look great - not sure if they should be consumed together. 5-10 minutes walk.

Great food in this bar restaurant. 5-10 minutes walk.

Tapas looks great - but we’ve not tried it yet.

The Park Inn

Classic Victorian street pub - real ales. 4 minutes walk.

5 mins walk - turn left then left, then left!

The Pilot of Mumbles

Camra Pub of the Year recently. Brewery on site. 15 minutes walk.

The White Rose

1-3 Newton Road

Not been yet, so can’t comment - sports pub. 5-10 minutes walk.


The Kings Head

In the village with great views from the garden, Gower Brewery pub. 40 minutes drive.


Britannia Inn

Voted one of Wales best pubs apparently! 17th Century Inn. Not been yet. Looks like good food. Salt marsh lamb on the menu. Gower Ales. 40 minutes drive.


The Plough & Harrow Gastro pub - food looks great but not tried it yet. 10 minutes drive


The Gower Heritage Centre

Local ales and ciders can be bought here and drunk in the gardens. Or you can take away a whole container! 20 minutes drive.

Port Enyon

The Ship Inn

Old pub with big extension. Based in the village. Gower Brewery pub. 35 minutes drive.


King Arthur Hotel

Picturesque pub in lovely village. It’s got a great beer garden, ales on tap and tasty food. 30 minutes drive.

Davies Bakery

Classic old bakery. Welsh cakes & pasties are supposed to be good. Not tried it yet so can’t confirm! 5 minutes walk.

Stuart’s Artisan Bread

Based in the Castleton Walk arcade Mumbles. Artisan bread and lovely hearty sandwiches and cakes. 5 mins walk from the house.

Little Valley Bakery

Parkmill - The Gower Heritage Centre

Delicious sandwiches and bread - essential picnic grub before you head to the Three Cliffs Beach. Often a queue so allow a bit of extra time - and send someone to pick up some local cider from the Heritage Centre while you wait! 20 minutes drive.
